Introduction to Indian Classical Music

This is an online certificate course that teaches the foundation concepts in the Indian Classical Music.

Module : SRSG-01 (Shashtriya Sangeet Parichay)

Duration : 10 sessions (60 min per session)
Prerequisite : Interest in Indian Music and Film songs
Fees : 12,000 Rs (recordings + study material Available)

Purpose of the course

To educate the mechanism of Indian music; how ICM works, theory behind vocal, Swaras, ABCD of the songs.

End of the course

  • Student will be able to understand, vocalise the basics of Indian music.
  • Students will be able to sing the easy and basic swar transposition and basic alankars and palte… and will compose short songs
  • Students will be able to understand their own voice culture and the voice cultures of the popular singers in Cinema music.
  • Raga knowledge enables the student to develop insight and awareness for the mechanism in the cinema songs.

Syllabus

  • Music theory- Voice Mechanism, ICM-Basics, Octave, Saptak, Pitch, Shruti, Shadja, Swar, Shuddha, Vikrit Swar, Chal-achal, Ornamentations, Raga, Tala, Sam, Alaap, Bandish, Taan, Swar-vistar, Swar-Malika.
  • Brief knowledge of Voice Culture – Omkar nada, Vowels rendition, Mantra-Uchharan, breathing games
  • Swar abhyas – 3-Octave-practice, Easiest Alankar (Palte), SS, RR, GG….. SRG,RGM, GMP,…and music composition
  • Tala Gyan – Knowledge of beats and rhythms and singing of alankars with Tala (Claps and taps)
  • Learning of easy songs based on the major notes (Shuddha scale) along with their notation followed by playing it on the keyboard
  • Learning easy Bhajan and play it on keyboard
  • Brief knowledge of Ragas and how they are created – Raga Bhupali
  • Learning songs in Bhupali
  • Exam after 10th sessions are over.

Fundamental knowledge and vocals

In this online certificate course you will learn about the basics of Swar & Raga.

Purpose of the course

Indian Classical introduction and basics for Bollywood singing

End of the course

  • Student will be able to understand, vocalise and identify Indian music elements with ease even in the casual songs.
  • Students will be able to sing the raga based Bollywood songs with great knowledge and with proper voice mechanism.
  • Students will be able to understand their own voice culture and the voice cultures of the popular singers in Cinema music.
  • Raga knowledge enables the student to develop insight and awareness for the mechanism in the cinema songs.

Intermediate Level

This online certificate course is an intermediate course that teaches the new variety of Ragas and Elements

Module : RTGMP-03 (Raga Tala Gyan Madhyamik Parichay)

Duration : 20 sessions (60 minutes per)
Prerequisite : Completion of the basic levels of Singing
Fees : 25,000/- (recording + study material Available)

Purpose of the course:

Make students help internalise the earlier taught Ragas.

End of the course

  • Student will be able to understand, vocalise and identify new set of Ragas which may be similar but has their own identity
  • Students will be able to sing the raga based Bollywood songs with great knowledge and with proper voice mechanism.
  • Students will be able to understand their own voice culture and the voice cultures of the popular singers in Cinema music.
  • Raga knowledge enables the student to develop insight and awareness for the mechanism in the cinema songs.

  • Voice Culture – Omkar nada, Vowels rendition, Mantra-Uchharan,
  • Basic elements of Classical music in the previously Taught Ragas- Bhupali, Bilawal, Khamaj, Bhairav, Bhairavi, etc.
  • Swar abhyas – through harder alankar,
  • Tala Knowledge- Teentala, Ektala, Dadra, Keherwa
  • 5 new Ragas – Bageshri, Kafi, Asawari, Durga, Des … Basics+Casual Songs (Parichay, Aaroh-Avroh, Pakad, Alaap, Swar-Malika, Lakshan Geet, Bandish)
  • Detailed analysis of Classical elements in these Ragas- Aalap, Nuances, Improvisation – Bol-Baant, Badhat, Tihaai, Taans, Tarana
  • Quiz – Pitch-identification, Song-Pitch identification, Swar-identification, Raga identification, Songs
  • Brief knowledge of Semi-classical Genre and some styles in these ragas

Introducing Ghazal Taalim

Module – Ghazal-03

Duration : 20 sessions (60 minutes per)
Prerequisite : Completion of the basic/intermediate levels of Singing

In this online certificate course student will learn the basics of Ghazal from scratch.

Purpose of the course:

Introduce & Make the students take interest in Semi-classical vocal Genre – GHAZAL

End of the course:

  • Student will be able to understand, vocalise Various Ghazals and understand its mechanism
  • Students will be able to sing the raga based Ghazals with great knowledge and with proper voice mechanism and Urdu accent.
  • Students will be able the concept of scale and pitch to vocalise a Ghazal with immense feel and emotions
  • Raga and Semi classical music enables the student express their emotions and inner psyche in the form of tunes.

  • Voice Culture – Omkar nada, Vowels rendition, Mantra-Uchharan,
  • Basic elements of Semi – Classical music and Ghazal

Introduction to Indian Music Therapy/Raga Chikitsa

MODULE 1 – IMT01

Purpose of the course: Introduce Indian music in a fun way & Enhance the cognition of the kids through Percussion, voice and instruments-play.

End of the course:

  1. Students will learn the music theory, Chords, Swar, Shruti in Voice and Casio both.
  2. Students will be able to Chant Sanskrit Shlokas with correct pronunciation.
  3. Students will be able to learn 5 casual/creative Indian motivational songs on vocals and keyboard.
  4. Students will be introduced Indian classical Raga-Bhupali- Classical elements (Aaroh/Avroh/Pakad/Bandish), Song of Bhupali, and Bhajans.
  5. Students form the concept of Indian beats and rhythms with hands, claps and a bit percussion (Tabla).

Purpose of the course: Introduce Indian classical Raga with Raga based casual songs and teach Songwriting

End of the course:

  1. Students will learn the music theory, Chords, Swar, Shruti in Voice and Casio both.
  2. Students will be able to Chant Sanskrit Shlokas with correct pronunciation.
  3. Students will be able to learn 4 Ragas -Classical elements, compositions, Songs, Playing the songs on Harmonium.
  4. Students will be taught Indian classical Raga-Bhupali- Classical elements (Aaroh/Avroh/Pakad/Bandish), Song of Bhupali, and Bhajans.
  5. Students form the concept of Indian beats and rhythms with hands, claps and a bit percussion (Tabla).

What will be covered in this Module:

  • Voice culture practice – Om, Vowel rendition, Mantra-renditions
  • Swar, alankars, Arpeggios, Transpositions with beats with Swar-Malika (Swar Melodies)

NOTE: Students will be listening to and interacting with the veterans musicians and music therapist in each of the modules. There would be special classes only if we see the interest and passion for music. Assignments may involve some sound interventions, knowing the psychology of music, and Ethnomusicology. So please be informed and try to form interest in all kinds of music.
